AUVA – The Austrian Workers’ Compensation Board
AUVA (Allgemeine Unfallversicherungsanstalt – the Austrian Workers’ Compensation Board) is the social insurance for occupational risks for more than 3.1 million employees and 1.4 million pupils and students. It’s financed mainly by contributions paid by employers. It’s legal duties are: prevention of occupational accidents and diseases, occupational medical care, first aid for occupational accidents, post traumatic treatment, rehabilitation, financial compensation and research.
The AUVA supports the Austrian Paralympic Committee and it’s athletes since physical activity motivates, strengthens the mental health and improves quality of life for disabled people.

With a volume of 80 million Euro each year and due to sponsoring numerous sport projects – and through the support of “Österreichische Sporthilfe”, Austrian Olympic Committee and Austrian Paralympic Committee – they are the most important financier of sports in Austria.
The Paralympics Tokyo 2020 are the next major challenge where the Austrian Lotteries support the Austrian Paralympic Committee to create successful Paralympics.

The Federal Sports Promotion Act 2013 established the Federal Sports Promotion Fund, which was converted into the “Bundes-Sport GmbH (BSG)”, a limited liability company, which takes over the task of financing the Austrian sports associations since 2018.
Since 2010, 80 million euros per year have been available for the promotion of associations in Austria. Funding is divided to elite sport (50%), popular sport (45%) and a smaller additional area for central funding recipients (5%). The funding is based on a “dual funding model”, which is divided into a long-term oriented, secured basic funding and an annual different measure funding, depending on the needs.
Sport is an essential part of Austrian’ daily lives and it inspires millions of people every day. In order to establish Austria as a nation of sports enthusiasts, it requires a framework to ensure the necessary financial and organisational support.
The constitutional powers are included in the states, while the federal government is primarily responsible for sport funding. The main task of the department of sports within the ministry is to promote the sociopolitical function of sports and the health strategy of sports clubs and sports associations.
