The Austrian Hospitality Houses/Alpenhaus
The Austrian Hospitality Houses/Alpenhaus
The Austria Houses, the Alpenhaus and now also the House of Friends are regarded as a place of hospitality and a central meeting point for Austrian (medal) celebrations with athletes, representatives from politics, business and the media, as well as the national and international Paralympic community and offer companies a unique communication platform for Austria as a business and tourism location.
Since “TURIN 2006”, the Austrian Paralympic Committee together with the Austrian Olympic Committee has operated the same Austria House after the Olympic Games also during the Paralympic Games. The success of this cooperation speaks for itself, in “PEKING 2008”, “VANCOUVER 2010”, “LONDON 2012”, “SOCHI 2014” and “RIO 2016” the doors of the Austria Houses were opened regularly for the guests.
After 12 successful years, the ÖPC took the next step in PyeongChang 2018:
Together with the national Paralympic Committees of Germany and Switzerland, a joint project was launched and the “Alpenhaus”, a new generation of hospitality house, was born.
At the Paralympics in TOKYO 2020 and BEIJING 2022, a new approach was taken with the Virtual Austria House due to the COVID-19 pandemic: The “Paralympic Report” was carried out as a virtual counterpart to the previous Austria House during the Paralympics and transformed into a virtual world via live streaming. The implementation was carried out from the studios in Vienna and Tokyo or Beijing. In two different settings, interviews were conducted with members of the Paralympic family, prominent guests and sponsors; athletes connected remotely from the Paralympic Village in Tokyo and Beijing.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the “Paralympic Report” will be carried out again this year as a virtual counterpart to the previous Austria House during the Paralympics and will be transformed into a virtual world by means of live streaming, because we want to make the athletes and their achievements known to a wider public and draw the attention of the population to the Paralympic Games, the third largest sporting event in the world, as well as arouse media interest.
A ten-day live broadcast during the Paralympics “PEKING 2022” from Vienna and Beijing will give the public an insight into the everyday life of the athletes on site and offer athletes a stage for their achievements and successes.

Virtual Austria House: TOKYO 2020
THE communication platform for sports, athletes, politics, business, media, fans, family as well as the Paralympic community during the Paralympic Games “TOKYO 2020”.
Every day our athletes are ready to go beyond their own limits to achieve their goals. The Austrian Paralympic Committee also has its goals clearly in mind despite the pandemic.
We want to make the athletes and their achievements known to a wider public and draw the attention of the population to the Paralympic Games, the third largest sporting event in the world, as well as arouse media interest.
The traditional Austria House, which opened its doors to the Paralympic community for the first time at the 2006 Paralympics in Turin, cannot physically take place this time due to the COVID-19 pandemic and related measures.
For this reason, it is important for us to implement the most basic features of the house and the advertising platform for our sponsors.
Together with our sponsors we would like to face this challenge and break new ground!
The Austria House will become a virtual experience with the support of professional live streaming: This year, for the first time, the “Paralympic Report” will be held as a virtual counterpart to the previous Austria House during the Paralympics and transformed into a virtual world by means of live streaming.
A thirteen-day live broadcast during the Paralympics “TOKYO 2020” from Vienna and Tokyo will give the audience insights into the everyday life of the athletes on site and offer athletes a stage for their achievements and successes.

After the Austrian Houses “PEKING 2008”, “VANCOUVER 2010”, “LONDON 2012”, “SOCHI 2014” and “RIO 2016”, the Alpenhaus will open its doors for the first time in “PyeongChang 2018” – a cross-national project in the spirit of sustainability in cooperation with Germany and Switzerland.
The Alpenhaus is considered the place of Austrian hospitality and a central meeting point for Austrian (medal) celebrations with athletes, representatives from politics, business and media, as well as the national and international Paralympic community.
For companies, the Alpenhaus offers a unique communication platform for Austria as a business and tourism location. With product presentations and special events, such as press conferences, company evenings, incentives, etc., our partners can present their company extensively. In addition to the joint Alpenhaus catering agency, the MODUL tourism schools provide for the physical well-being of the guests and stand for Austrian quality in service and equipment.

Best of Austrian Hospitality House: PEKING 2008
On Friday, 5.9, the Austria House was ceremoniously opened. The Austrian team was present as well as prominent representatives from politics, economy and sports, first and foremost ÖPC President Peter Wittmann, ÖOC President Leo Wallner, State Secretary for Sports Reinhold Lopatka, the President of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce Brigitte Jank and Austria’s Ambassador in Beijing, Martin Sajdik.
The Austria House is located in the “Great Wall Sheraton Hotel” as it was during the Olympic Games – a sign of the good cooperation between ÖOC and ÖPC. Here the medals of the red-white-red athletes will be duly celebrated – and here team, fans and friends can come together to have a “home port” in the Chinese giant metropolis with Chinese and Austrian specialties.
